It’s time for another bizarre recipe and this one has us scratching our heads. I mean, who comes up with this stuff? First, why use every kid’s favorite condiment in a cake? And second, how is it that it ends up looking like Red Velvet but tasting like carrot cake?!
It turns out that this recipe was developed by Heinz to celebrate their 100 year anniversary and get some publicity going around that event. People took interest and have been trying the recipe out for themselves.
Emmy Made In Japan couldn’t let this opportunity pass. It’s too crazy not to try! Check out how she did it and what the verdict is. I’ll admit, I was definitely against this cake at first, but now I’m not so sure. I think I might have to test it out a see for myself. An even better idea would be to give it a go and turn it into a party game…guess the secret ingredient! Do you think anyone would catch on?

- 2 cups flour
- 2 t. baking powder
- 1 1/2 t. ground cinnamon
- 1/2 t. ground ginger
- 1/2t. ground nutmeg
- 1/2 cup Heinz ketchup
- 1/2 cup water
- 2 T. red food coloring
- 1 1/2 cups butter, softened and divided
- 1 1/2 cups packed brown sugar
- 2 eggs
- 6 oz. cream cheese, softened
- 1 t. vanilla
- 4 cups powdered sugar
