Banana bread is timeless and this recipe looks to be a good, no-fail, classic version, with lots of walnuts. However, since we can’t seem to find Fisher’s Blend Flour in stores, a strong wheat flour should do as a good substitute. This bread looks sure to please every time…just like the Golden Girl!

- 2 cups strong wheat flour, sifted
- 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
- 1/2 tsp. baking soda
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 cup mashed, ripe bananas (2 large)
- 1 egg
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1/4 cup melted shortening or vegetable oil
- 1/2 cup chopped walnuts
- 1 tsp. vanilla
