Have you ever noticed when you pull a clean towel off your shelf or closet that when it gets wet, it kinda smells funky?
I have.
And I hate it.
Well, you’re not alone. And it’s not because you’re not washing them enough. (which is what I always thought)
Read on for the reason and the solution! The answer & the solution will surprise you.
Whenever my wet towels smell stinky, I immediately try to think back and remember when they were last washed. But, you know what? That’s not the problem!
Here’s the deal.
Most of us ARE washing them frequently enough…maybe too much. Most of us also tend to use what the detergent bottle recommends, but that might be hurting us, too.
Apparently, when towels are washed with too much detergent and then dried with a dryer sheet, it may not be as clean and dry as we would like. Hence the smell once it gets wet.
Try this:
Next time you wash your towels, don’t use any detergent. Instead wash them in hot water with 1 cup of vinegar. Then wash them again in hot water with a 1/2 cup of baking soda. Then dry fully.
This process will help strip your towels of any detergent residue that might be hanging on. And oddly enough, this cleaning process will ALSO help your towel’s absorbency. When towels are bogged down with old residue, their absorbency is also affected.
Great tip! Thanks for sharing your expertise with us. I cannot wait to try this tonight when I get home!!
