Who remembers learning to macrame? Many of us probably learned how to make plant hangers, once upon a time. I can remember one Halloween, as a teenager, working on one while waiting for the younger kids to come to the door for treats. That was definitely my idea of a fun evening!
Well, believe it or not, this craft is making a resurgence. With eclectic decor and tone on tone texture being all the rage, macrame fits right into that scheme. We are seeing it in magazines and home decor stores everywhere, and it’s not just wall hangings. Artists are making rugs, pillows and, yes, plant hangers.
This easy-to-follow tutorial from My French Twist shows how to make this lovely wall hanging, using just a few beginner knots. She uses a dowel and clothesline, so this craft is certainly economical and makes a big impact for just a few dollars. Here are the materials that you will need to make your own DIY Macrame Wall Hanging:
- One dowel rod (the one shown is 7/8″ circumference and 28″ long)
- Two ceramic drawer knobs to use as finials
- Five 100-foot rolls of cotton clothesline (3/16″)
- Masking or painter’s tape
- Scissors
