I have been doing this for several years and I have a couple of additional tips:
- Start treating with soap as soon as you see shoots emerge in the Spring
- Break off little chunks of the soap rather than shaving with a vegetable peeler
- Replenish every 3-4 weeks
- Hang small bar portions from young tree branches
